More
about the Meeting and Teaching Recorder for Windows
Why
would I want to record to a computer rather than to tape, to an MP3
recorder or straight to CD?
Of course there may be some
situations when recording to a PC or laptop isn't the best option, but there
are very many situations where it will be. Here are some of the benefits
compared to other methods.
It's better than
recording to tape
-
Recording to tape usually adds tape noise to the recording and if there are
some quiet voices they may be drowned out by that noise.
-
Tape duplication adds further noise.
-
The quality of the recording deteriorates the more it is played.
-
If the event being recorded is longer than the tape, you have the inconvenience
of changing the tape.
-
Tapes take up space and so storing them long term is a serious issue.
-
You have to keep buying blank tapes.
It's better than using an MP3 recorder
-
An MP3 recorder will only record one quality setting at a time. If you want to
create CD quality recordings but also want to make them available for streaming
you will need to pull the recording onto a computer and then use software to
create a new recording at the lower bitrate.
-
Some MP3 recording devices produce poor recordings with lots of noise due
to inferior quality built in microphones.
-
When you record using an MP3 recorder, you will often end up putting
the recording onto a computer, so why not record it there in the first place.
It's better than recording direct to CD
-
If you happen to use a poor quality or damaged blank CD then you will lose
your recording.
-
If you want to edit a CD recording before duplicating it you still
have to pull the recording onto a computer to do this and so lose any advantage
that recording direct to CD might bring.
-
CD recording equipment is expensive to buy and repair.
-
You are limited to 80 minutes at the most before having to swap CDs which means
you lose some content if the event you are recording is longer than this.
-
You have to keep buying CDs.
Benefits of choosing the Meeting and
Teaching Recorder
The Meeting and Teaching Recorder
overcomes the negatives of these other methods of recording and it has distinct
advantages over other recording software that is available for recording
directly to PC.
-
Your recordings are immediately ready to be able
to master CDs and upload to a streaming server. No other software
or harware solution currently provides this feature.
-
Because it works on Windows based PCs and laptops
with virtually no impact on the running of other programs you can use it on
existing hardware rather than having to buy dedicated recording equipment.
-
The recordings are immediately available on the
recording computer making archiving and transmission of the files trivial.
-
Recordings can be copied straight to memory
sticks, MP3 players, iPods and other devices without having to first copy the
files onto the computer.
-
As soon as you have finished recording you have
the opportunity to very easily add speaker, title and other information
directly into the MP3 file.
-
The user interface is extremely simple, unlike
many other recording programs. You need little technical know how to set things
up and only need to know how to press a start and stop button to use the
program. Many other programs have lots of extra features that just end up
confusing people.
-
The program window on the screen is tiny so you
can keep it open without it interfering with your use of other programs. The
impact on the computer is negligible so it won't affect the running of your
other programs.
-
The program can automatically determine where to
save your recording files and what to call them, based on the information you
provide when the recording finishes.
System Requirements
The Meeting and Teaching Recorder has the following system requirements...
-
Windows XP (SP1 or later), Windows Vista or Window 7 - If your computer
can run these versions of Windows it can almost certainly run the Meeting and
Teaching Recorder!
-
Windows Media Player 10 or later which provides an encoder to generate
MP3 output.
If you're not sure if your system meets these requirements, just download the
program and give it a try!
Legal Note: Unlike some other MP3 recording software, the Behest
Meeting and Teaching Recorder does not illegally include unlicensed MP3
encoding software, which is why it requires Windows Media Player 10 or later to
be installed.
